The following is from an email I recieved today:
From: Derrick S.
Boone, Ph.D.

I
wanted to let you know about a great opportunity here at Wake Forest where you
can get
a FREE education and get PAID while you're doing it.. Our Dean of
the Schools of
Business is the former CEO of PepsiCo and very committed to
diversity. He's gone around
to his CEO friends, who have agreed to donate a
bunch of money to pay tuition and fees,
provide a stipend, and a job, to
diverse students. The details are below. The problem is,
response to the
program has been dismal! As a faculty member, I would be embarrassed
for
him to have to tell his CEO friends, "thanks so much for your donation, but
unfortunately I have to give it back because we couldn't find any students
who wanted it."

So, I need your help. Please contact me if you, or
ANYONE you know
is interested in the program. I know TO has a long reach,
and I want to take
advantage of it and help out as many young scholars as I
can.

Don't worry about whether or not you (or they) have taken the GMAT,
etc.
All you need to do at this point is JUST APPLY. In business, you
have
o act when the opportunity is presented, and that is
now.

Derrick S. Boone, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of
Marketing
Room 3139 Worrell Professional Center
Babcock Graduate School of
Management
Wake Forest University
1834 Wake Forest Drive
Winston-Salem
, NC 27109-8758
<a title="http://us.mc810.mail.yahoo.com/mc/compose?to=derrick.boone@mba.wfu.edu

336.758.4514

The Master of Art in Management program is designed
specifically for liberal arts majors only.
The MA degree program is a 10
month intense study of the basic functional areas of business.
After
graduation and working for approximately two years, all MA graduates are
eligible to
apply to Wake Forest as part of the MA/MBA joint degree program
and get the MBA in one
year. The new Dean, Steve Reinemund, has created a
new scholarship for diverse students
pursuing the MA degree called the
Corporate Fellowship..

The Corporate Fellowship provides full tuition
and a $21,000 stipend to cover living expenses.
Additionally, each
Corporate Fellow will participate in a practicum. The practicum has two
components, educational and professional development. Each student will be
assigned a
mentor that is a high level executive with their sponsor
corporation. The mentor will oversee
an educational project covering 4 of
the functional areas of business using their own
corporation as the subject.
The student will visit the corporation 3 - 4 times during the
program to
present his/her results of their research project.

Additionally, the "professional
development" component of the fellowship provides career
coaching and
leadership development for the students. The goal for the corporation is to
be able to groom and hopefully, hire a top candidate from a diverse
background for their
organization. Of course, there is no obligation that
the students accept any offer of
employment. Still, the student benefits,
even if they are not ultimately hired by their
sponsor corporation in that
they have the MA degree and the type of experience that will
make them more
marketable.

<!--

A friend sent this to me by email regarding the shoe bomber. I had forgot all about this person.

Remember the guy who got on a plane with a bomb built into his
shoe and tried to light it?

Did you know his trial is over?
Did you know he was sentenced?
Did you see/hear any of the judge's comments on TV or Radio?

Didn't think so.!!!

Everyone should hear what the judge had to say.

--------------------------------------------------------

Ruling by Judge William Young, US District Court.

Prior to sentencing, the Judge asked the defendant if he had anything to say.
His response: After admitting his guilt to the court for the record, Reid
also admitted his 'allegiance to Osama bin Laden, to Islam, and to the
religion of Allah,' defiantly stating, 'I think I will not apologize for my
actions,' and told the court 'I am at war with your country.'

Judge Young then delivered the statement quoted below:

January 30, 2003, United States vs. Reid.

Judge Young: 'Mr. Richard C. Reid, hearken now to the sentence the Court
    imposes upon you.

On counts 1, 5 and 6 the Court sentences you to life in prison in the
custody of the United States Attorney General. On counts 2, 3, 4 and 7, the
Court sentences you to 20 years in prison on each count, the sentence on
each count to run consecutively. (That's 80 years.)

On count 8 the Court sentences you to the mandatory 30 years again, to be
served consecutively to the 80 years just imposed. The Court imposes upon
you for each of the eight counts a fine of $250,000 that's an aggregate
fine of $2 million. The Court accepts the government's recommendation with
respect to restitution and orders restitution in the amount of $298.17 to
Andre Bousquet and $5,784 to American Airlines.

The Court imposes upon you an $800 special assessment. The Court imposes
upon you five years supervised release simply because the law requires it.
But the life sentences are real life sentences so I need go no further.

This is the sentence that is provided for by our statutes. It is a fair and
just sentence. It is a righteous sentence.

Now, let me explain this to you. We are not afraid of you or any of your
terrorist co-conspirators, Mr. Reid. We are Americans. We have been through
the fire before. There is too much war talk here and I say that to everyone
with the utmost respect. Here in this court, we deal with individuals as
individuals and care for individuals as individuals. As human beings, we
    reach out for justice.

You are not an enemy combatant. You are a terrorist. You are not a soldier
in any war. You are a terrorist. To give you that reference, to call you a
soldier, gives you far too much stature. Whether the officers of government
do it or your attorney does it, or if you think you are a soldier. You are
not----- you are a terrorist. And we do not negotiate with terrorists. We
do not meet with terrorists. We do not sign documents with terrorists. We
hunt them down one by one and bring them to justice.

So war talk is way out of line in this court. You are a big fellow. But you
are not that big. You're no warrior. I've known warriors. You are a
terrorist. A species of criminal that is guilty of multiple attempted
murders. In a very real sense, State Trooper Santiago had it right when you
first were taken off that plane and into custody and you wondered where the
press and the TV crews were, and he said: 'You're no big deal.'

You are no big deal.

What your able counsel and what the equally able United States attorneys
have grappled with and what I have as honestly as I know how tried to
grapple with, is why you did something so horrific. What was it that led
you here to this courtroom today?

I have listened respectfully to what you have to say. And I ask you to
search your heart and ask yourself what sort of unfathomable hate led you
to do what you are guilty and admit you are guilty of doing? And, I have an
answer for you. It may not satisfy you, but as I search this entire record,
it comes as close to understanding as I know.

It seems to me you hate the one thing that to us is most precious. You hate
our freedom. Our individual freedom. Our individual freedom to live as we
choose, to come and go as we choose, to believe or not believe as we
individually choose. Here, in this society, the very wind carries freedom.
It carries it everywhere from sea to shining sea. It is because we prize
individual freedom so much that you are here in this beautiful courtroom.
So that everyone can see, truly see, that justice is administered fairly,
individually, and discretely. It is for freedom's sake that your lawyers
are striving so vigorously on your behalf, have filed appeals, will go on
in their representation of you before other judges.

We Americans are all about freedom. Because we all know that the way we
treat you, Mr. Reid, is the measure of our own liberties. Make no mistake
though. It is yet true that we will bear any burden; pay any price, to
preserve our freedoms. Look around this courtroom. Mark it well. The world
is not going to long remember what you or I say here. The day after
tomorrow, it will be forgotten, but this, however, will long endure.

Here in this courtroom and courtrooms all across America , the American
people will gather to see that justice, individual justice, justice, not
war, individual justice is in fact being done. The very President of the
United States through his officers will have to come into courtrooms and
lay out evidence on which specific matters can be judged and juries of
citizens will gather to sit and judge that evidence democratically, to mold
and shape and refin e our sense of justice.

See that flag, Mr. Reid? That's the flag of the United States of America .
That flag will fly there long after this is all forgotten. That flag stands
for freedom. And it always will.

Mr. Custody Officer. Stand him down.

So, how much of this Judge's comments did we hear on our TV sets? We need
more judges like Judge Young, but that's another subject. Pass this around.
Everyone should and needs to hear what this fine judge had to say. Powerful
words that strike home. God Bless America

Please SEND this----so that every American has a chance to read it.
After reading a few articles yesterday, I am not unhappy that the bailout bill was not voted in. To me it looked like there was not help for the taxpayers and all the money would be going to the financial institutions. How was the economy going to improve by giving money to the banks so that they will be able to lend us more money? To me, that does not make sense.
If the $700 Billions is taxpayer money, then why don't they bail out the taxpayer. That makes sense seeing that it is the taxpayer that is hurting the most. Why can't they give the taxpayers a couple hundred thousand each, so that they can pay their mortgages back to the banks. Then the banks can go back to lending money to each other and us. If I got back all the money I have paid into taxes since I started working, and I have been working since I was 16, that's what I would do. I would pay my mortgage down and any other debts that I may have. Now that makes since to me. If the banks are mismanaging money then, why give them more money to possible mismanage.

Here's another option:
According to the wikipedia, there is about 138 millions taxpayers in the US. If they would have just divided the $700 billion up among the 138 million taxpayers, we each would have gotten around $5072.46.
I know that is not a lot but I could still work with that amount.
If I got a $5076 bailout check, here is a list of my options on how to use it:
1. Help pay the mortgage for 5 months.
2. Pay my car loans for 7 months for both cars.
3. Pay my People's gas bill for an entire year. And maybe the telephone bill, since the furnace is only on from January til May.
4. Buy gas for both cars for entire year.

Details of the recall are below:

Manufacturer: Sony Electronics Inc., of San Diego, Calif.

Hazard: Irregularly positioned wires near the computer’s hinge and/or a dislodged screw inside the hinge can cause a short circuit and overheating. This poses a burn hazard to consumers. (OUCH!)

Incidents/Injuries: Sony has received 15 reports of overheating, including one consumer who suffered a minor burn.

Description: The recalled notebook computer models are the VAIO VGN-TZ100 series, VGN-TZ200 series, VGN-TZ300 series and VGN-TZ2000 series. The computers’ screen size is about 11.1" measured diagonally. Not all units are affected; consumers should contact Sony to determine if their unit is included in the recall.

Sold by: The SonyStyle stores and Web site, authorized electronics retailers, and authorized business-to-business dealers nationwide from July 2007 through August 2008 for between $1,700 and $4,000.

Manufactured in: Japan and United States

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the recalled notebook computers immediately and contact Sony to determine if their notebook is affected. The firm will arrange for an inspection and repair, if needed.

Consumer Contact: For additional information, contact Sony toll-free at (888) 526-6219 anytime, or visit the firm’s Web site at www.sony.com/support

Wink is a Tutorial and Presentation creation software. Its main purpose is for creating tutorials on how to use software, with step by step instructions. You can capture screenshots of your software using Wink and create a step by step walkthrough with images, buttons and text explaining the procedure. Wink can export your tutorials into Flash, PDF, HTML and even self-playing Flash executables. Advanced features include custom buttons for navigating the presentation, templates, balloon callouts, an inbuilt callout editor, cursor editor, palettes for the generated images and much more. Comes with two tutorials created using itself showing how to use Wink. Wink is a good tool for any developer/documentation creator/teacher's toolbox.

Features

Freeware: Distributed as freeware for business or personal use. However if you want to redistribute Wink, you need to get permission from the author.

Audio: Record voice as you create the tutorial for explaining better.

Input formats: Capture screenshots from your PC, or use images in BMP/JPG/PNG/TIFF/GIF formats.

Output formats: Macromedia Flash, Standalone EXE, PDF, PostScript, HTML or any of the above image formats. Use Flash/html for the web, EXE for distributing to PC users and PDF for printable manuals.

Multilingual support: Works in English, French, German, Italian, Danish, Spanish, Serbian, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese and Simplified/Traditional Chinese.

Smart Capture Tools: Capture screenshots automatically as you use your PC, based on mouse and keyboard input (great time saver and generates professional captures).

Performance/Quality: Creates highly compressed Flash presentations (few kbs to few hundreds of kbs, much smaller than competing commercial products) ideal for using on the web

I found out about the IPRA when I attended one of the Chicago Budget Hearings. When I go to my local Caps meeting for my beat, I often hear a lot of complaints from people about the service they receive from Chicago Police Officers. We are often told at the beat meetings that if we are not satisfied with the service we receive from an officer that we should call back and ask to speak to a supervisor or request for a supervisor to come out to resolve the issue. My wife and I have experienced bad police service and we have call back 911 to ask to speak to a supervisor and we have requested that a supervisor come out to resolve our issue we had. Sometime we get a good supervisor and then sometime we don’t. I think the one time we got a good supervisor, we called the district commander and they sent the supervisor out to see us. Nowadays, it is not as easy to call and talk with the district commander, which lead me to seek out other ways to voice my dissatisfaction with the service I might receive from the Chicago Police. The one thing that I have learned is that if you do not complain to the right people, you will continue to get bad service. If the people that give bad service know that you will complain and that they will be held accountable for their actions, they will change the way they interact with you and will be more professional with you. So, if you experience poor police service and you have called back for a supervisor and you are still unsatisfied, then I would suggest you contact the IPRA. The IPRA takes all complaints, but they only handle or investigate allegations of the use of excessive force, police shootings where an officer discharges their weapon and strikes someone, deaths while in custody of the police, domestic violence, verbal abuse including bias and coercion. All other complaints once registered with the IPRA are forward to the Internal Affairs Division (IAD). Complaints not handled by IPRA would be allegations of drug use, theft, and procedural violations.

Once a complaint is received, it is given a complaint log number. If the complaint is within IPRA jurisdiction, they will retain it and conduct an investigation. All other complaints will be forwarded to the CPD Internal Affairs Division for resolution. Either way you should expect IPRA to send a letter to you acknowledging the complaint within 5 to 7 working days.

If you need to file a complaint against a CPD officer, you have 5 ways to do it:

1. Call IPRA at 312-745-3594 from 7am to 10:30pm, 7 days a week. Voicemail available 24 hours a day.

2. Visit the IPRA office located on the 12th floor of the IIT tower (10 west 35th street) between 8am and 10pm,

3. Write a letter to IPRA:
    IPRA
    10 West 35th Street, 12th Floor
    Chicago, IL 60616

4. Visit the IPRA’s website: www.IPRAChicago.org

5. Visit any Chicago Police Department district station and register a complaint with the desk sergeant. Complaints received at the district stations "are supposed" to be immediately forward to IPRA.

Also, if you would like to compliment an officer you have 4 ways to do it:
1. Visit the IPRA’s website: www.IPRAChicago.org
<SUP>
2. Call IPRA at 312-745-3594

3. Write a letter to IPRA at:
IPRA
10 West 35th Street, 12th Floor
Chicago, IL 60616

4. Write a letter to CPD at:
The Office of Superintendent
Chicago Police Department
3510 S. Michigan ave.
Chicago, IL 60653
</SUP>

When I go to my local Caps meeting for my beat, I often hear a lot of complaints from people about the service they receive from Chicago Police Officers.

We all have a need to be reminded about important events, be it birthdays, aniversaries, or whatever a simple “set it and forget it” reminder is a great way to make sure you don’t forget. Rather than installing an application (if you don’t have one already) to create these reminders, simply use Notepad along with the Scheduled Tasks Windows component. Here is how:

1. In Notepad, create and save a new text document for your reminder message.
2. Open Control Panel > Scheduled Tasks.
3. Set the task executable as the text file you created in step 1. Note, you might have to change the file extension to “All Files” in order to select a text document.
4. Set the date and time to run.
5. When the date and time in step is reached, the text document will open.

Yes, this isn’t a fancy method at all, but it works great and it is available to you know at the low low cost of FREE.
This would also work using MicroSoft Word or Wordperfect. You are not limited to just Notepad.

The FDA has announced that this year’s seasonal influenza vaccines include new strains of the virus that are likely to hit the US during the 2008-2009 season.

The manufacturers of the vaccines and the name of their vaccine are as following:

CSL Limited
Vaccine: Afluria

GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals
Vaccine: Fluarix

ID Biomedical Corporation of Quebec
Vaccine: Flulaval

Medimmune Vaccines, Inc.
Vaccine: FluMist

Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics Limited
Vaccine: Fluvirin

Sanofi Pasteur, Inc.
Vaccine: Fluzone

Those are some pretty interesting vaccine names. J

To check out the approval information and specifics indications click over to: www.fda.gov/cber/flu/flu2008.htm

The FDA changed all 3 strains for this year’s influenza vaccine. This is unusual because normally only one or two strains are updated from year to year. You can view a list of the strains in the 2008-2009 vaccine at the link listed above in this article. The vaccines are modified each season to reflect the virus strains that are most likely to be going around. The closer the match between the circulating strain and the strains in the vaccine, the better the protection. But even if the vaccines and the circulating strains are not an perfect match, they will provide some protection and may reduce the severity of the illness or prevent flu-related complications.

I wonder if they are taking odds in Vegas if the strains in the vaccine will match the strains circulating. Now that's gambling!

Two of the three strains that were recommended for the US this year are now in use in the Southern Hemisphere’s 2008 Flu season, which is underway now.

According to the CDC, every year 5 to 20 percent of the US population gets the Flu; more than 200,000 are hospitalized from Flu complications and about 36,000 Flu-related deaths. Elderly, young children and people with chronic medical conditions at higher risk for Flu-related complications, which makes it important that they get vaccinated.

Currently 40 percent of health care workers in the US are vaccinated against the Flu. It is considered important that health care workers are vaccinated so they can set an example for their patients as well as decrease the possibility of them contracting and transmitting the virus.

It is too early to tell if there will be enough vaccine to go around for everyone who wants to get one. Since I am not elderly, a young child, or have a chronic medical condition, I do not get a flu vaccine. But if you are worried about a shortage, just email me and I will mail you my Flu Stimulus Voucher in the mail.

It's relatively quick to set up a shortcut. For a program or document, browse to the relevant file on your hard drive, or drag and drop it from Explorer to create a shortcut. You can also create a key binding to send an e-mail or open a Web site, reboot your PC, execute Winlaunch commands or perform a range of other tasks.
